Jennifer Fearing, who has successfully led state policy efforts for The Humane Society of the United States, the nation's largest animal protection organization, will become the new Sacramento Advocate at California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits).

She ran the successful Proposition 2 ballot campaign in 2008 and has been in Sacramento since that time lobbying the California legislature, Governor's Office, and state regulatory agencies. She has helped pursue more than 50 positive state legislative and regulatory outcomes in Sacramento since 2008 and led efforts to develop a new caucus, voters scorecard, myriad lobby days and other successful events and policy initiatives.

Ms. Fearing has authored opinion editorials that have appeared in the Sacramento Bee, San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times and other newspapers and is frequently interviewed by local, state and national media. She earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science and Economics from UC Davis and her master’s degree from Harvard in Public Policy. She is a regular guest lecturer at McGeorge, Boalt and Hastings law schools and NYU.

Ashley McCumber, Chair of the CalNonprofits Board and Executive Director of Meals on Wheels San Francisco, said, “We are thrilled to have an advocate of Jennifer’s caliber and experience on our team. She will bring enormous strength to our efforts to protect and enhance the ability of California’s nonprofits to serve our state and the nation.”

"It’s high time CalNonprofits had the Capitol profile to match their community and statewide impact,” said Ms. Fearing. "I can’t wait to help California’s nonprofits use their voices to effectively shape state policies that affect them.”

Fearing will be continuing to advocate for The Humane Society in Sacramento. She can be contacted at JenniferF(at)calnonprofits.org.
