CalNonprofits, the leading policy voice for California’s nonprofit sector, focuses on advocacy, education, and research to build a more powerful and politically engaged nonprofit network across California.
ADVOCACY
As the leading voice for California’s nonprofit sector, we work with lawmakers, advocates, and nonprofit leaders to advance the health, stability, and effectiveness of our state’s nonprofits. This includes responding to proposed rules and regulations, organizing coalitions to support policies that support the nonprofit sector, and sponsoring legislation that strengthens our sector as a whole.
EDUCATION
Our education program helps nonprofit leaders stay up-to-date on everything from the ABCs of nonprofit management to the ever-evolving landscape of rules and regulations governing the nonprofit sector. Specifically, CalNonprofits focuses on:
- Tracking and understanding the impacts of policy decisions on our organizations and communities
- Ensuring that nonprofit organizations are informed of and have the information necessary to comply with rules and regulations
- Offering tools to better access and navigate government funding opportunities
- Understanding the rules around advocacy and supporting effective engagement in policy-making
- Aggregating data and sharing research on our sector
RESEARCH
Knowledge is power, and CalNonprofits works to gather and share relevant data about the collective work of nonprofit organizations. We advocate for better data, share the data that is available, offer perspectives on how to interpret nonprofit data, and on occasion conduct our own research.
A BIT OF HISTORY…
Founded in 1984, CalNonprofits is powered by a growing membership of thousands that is reflective of the rich diversity of our sector. Our members include nonprofit organizations of all shapes and sizes from small grassroots organizations and volunteer-led projects in rural communities to statewide alliances and multi-chapter agencies in our largest cities. Membership opens the door to a wide range of discounts and benefits, including access to our own nonprofit insurance brokerage.
