Campaigns & Initiatives

Speaking up and speaking out for all nonprofits in our state!

CalNonprofits keeps up with the latest issues affecting nonprofit leadership and staff, and the ability of organizations to thrive and serve their communities. We take action in various ways, including through these current legislative campaigns and program initiatives: The California Equity Initiative; California Nonprofit of the Year; Causes Count; Nonprofit Student Debt Project; California Policy Forum; and Vote with Your Mission.

CA Nonprofit Equity Initiative

Improving how state government contracts with nonprofits is a question of equity – for our most vulnerable communities and for the nonprofits that serve them. That’s why CalNonprofits has worked in collaboration with a coalition of nonprofits on a package of bills that seeks to strengthen nonprofits’ essential partnership with the State of California and our mutual efforts to deliver the highest quality services to the people of California.

California Nonprofit of the Year

Each year, California Assemblymembers and State Senators are invited to honor a California Nonprofit of the Year for their district. It’s a way for nonprofit honorees to strengthen their relationships with legislators, and vice versa.

Causes Count

A ground-breaking report on the economic impact of California’s nonprofit sector, Causes Count examines the size, variety, diversity, and overall magnitude of California’s nonprofit sector.

While sometimes portrayed as too small to matter or less efficient than for-profit businesses, the nonprofit sector revealed in this this report shows it is too significant to overlook, robust with human and financial capital, and uniquely representative of the visions and values of California’s diverse communities.

The California Policy Forum

The California Policy Forum is a unique partnership between CalNonprofits and Philanthropy California (Northern California GrantmakersCatalyst of San Diego & Imperial CountiesSouthern California Grantmakers) and the League of California Community Foundations. It brings together the voice of nonprofits and philanthropy in our state and amplifies the sector’s significance and priorities to policymakers and experts.

Vote with Your Mission

Nonprofit voter engagement is a powerful way for nonprofits to “stand up” for the needs off their communities. Registering people to vote, equipping them with information about what’s on their ballot, and reminding them to vote on election day benefits our communities and our sector, far beyond the outcome of any particular election.
