Update 5/2/16 - AB 2855 is set to be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee soon, and members of that committee need to hear from nonprofits in their district about how harmful this bill is to all our work. In addition to the joint sign-on letter that hundreds of charity leaders have signed, on Friday we submitted another letter focused on the fiscal issues posed by AB 2855.

AB 2855 would require nonprofits to place unnecessary and burdensome notices on every document that includes a fundraising message -- not just California nonprofits but any nonprofit that attempts to raise funds in California -- which is pretty much every nonprofit in the world. While we share the goals of transparency for nonprofits and prosecuting bad actors, this bill will do nothing toward achieving those goals.

For more information on why CalNonprofits and over 600 other nonprofits oppose AB 2855, check out our new fact sheetHere are two actions you can take NOW to help stop AB 2855:

1. Contact Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez, who chairs the Assembly Appropriations Committee, and let her know that you oppose this bill and that it will harm nonprofits. It’s easy to call her Capitol office at (916) 319-2080. Or you can email her office at:

2. Contact your own Assemblymember with the same message! Check here to find out how to contact your Assemblymember.

Please make your calls today. And if you haven’t already, you can join hundreds of your colleagues by signing on in opposition to AB 2855 here. Thank you!
