The U.S. Census is hiring thousands of Californians for temporary, flexible jobs that also benefit our communities.
Nonprofits know what's at stake if our communities aren't counted in the next Census: representation in Congress and millions in federal funding are on the line. You also know that the best chance of making sure everyone is counted is for trusted messengers, including nonprofit staff and volunteers, to reach out.
Now it's time to encourage folks in your community to apply for temporary, part-time Census jobs!
The U.S. Census Bureau is hiring for a variety of temporary positions including census takers, recruiting assistants, office staff, and supervisory staff. Pay ranges from about $15/hour to $30/hour depending on where you live, for most jobs. The jobs are typically a few weeks to a few months long including training, and have flexible schedules, though many require working in the evenings or on weekends.
You can apply for a Census job if you:
Most Census jobs also require that you have a valid driver's license and access to a car or public transportation, as well as a computer and internet access for online training. You can find more information here.
Ongoing Census jobs also available around the state California
Census Bureau Regional Offices conduct continuous surveys — other than the once-a-decade population count — to supply the nation with important statistics on people, places and our economy. The Regional Office for California is based in Los Angeles, but they hire local field workers everywhere around the state. For a list of current openings click here.
We encourage you to share this information with your staff, volunteers, clients, and wider community. Making sure everyone is counted is vital to the future of California.
