'Tis the season for advice about how to donate to nonprofits during the holidays – and how to figure out which ones are "worthy" of your donation. Some of the conventional advice isn't really practical, or, in the worst cases, encourages people to donate only to nonprofits with low overhead.
(As if paying for rent and salaries isn't crucial to caring for disabled adults, feeding the homeless, rescuing animals, advocating for better public policy, creating community theater, rebuilding wetlands, or all the other vital roles nonprofits play in supporting communities.)
