CalNonprofits seeks a wide range of candidates who reflect the diverse landscapes in which nonprofits operate in California. All nominees must be employed by, or volunteer at, a CalNonprofits nonprofit-member organization. Self-nominations are welcome. As part of our commitment to democracy in our society and in our membership, two-thirds of our board are elected by CalNonprofits members.

In addition to normal board governance activities, CalNonprofits board members provide strategic guidance to the organization’s leadership while serving as advocates for its mission, and as policy partners. Responsibilities include governance and leadership of the organization’s programs and activities. Every board member must participate as an active officer of the board or as a member of a committee or task force. They are expected to participate in all scheduled board meetings including three in-person meetings and three conference call meetings. Board terms are three years; board members may serve no more than two consecutive terms.

If you have suggestions for nominees, or questions about the process or board responsibilities, please reach out to Christine Metropoulos, Project Director for the CEO.

Board Election Process

Two-thirds of CalNonprofits’ Board of Directors are elected by the CalNonprofits members and the board appoints the remaining one-third of the seats. The Board Nominating Committee will carefully consider all nominations.

On May 1, 2020 ballots will be electronically delivered to those members with email addresses in their member profiles and sent via U.S. Postal Service to those without email addresses.
