CalNonprofits Articles

It has been crystal clear in the COVID-19 crisis that nonprofits don't hesitate before jumping in to help. Nonprofit clinics, shelters, food programs, senior centers, residential care homes, and more are on the front lines. And we also see – as we see in every crisis – nonprofits stepping outside their usual business to address the needs of our communities.

On March 18 CalNonprofits asked our community of nonprofits to sign on to a letter to California's lawmakers outlining specific, clear supports that nonprofits need immediately. In just a few days, more than 1,000 nonprofits signed the letter which includes the following:

  • Relief from government contract deliverables that cannot be met due to new regulation
  • Ability to modify contracts with government
  • Equal treatment for nonprofits in support for employers and employees
  • Funds marked for nonprofit expenses as we go all out fighting the pandemic

We delivered the letter to legislators and the Governor's office on Friday afternoon. They had seen earlier versions during meetings, but the final letter is a powerful statement by our community, and it is already making a difference. You can read the final letter here. You can see our press release here.
