CalNonprofits Articles

Last week Assemblymember Luz Rivas sent a letter to the Governor and legislative leaders – based on the CalNonprofits letter – seeking actions supporting nonprofits with government contracts, nonprofit employers and employees, and new funding. Twenty-nine members of the Assembly have now signed onto this letter.

What can you do now to support these efforts?

If your state assemblymember signed Assemblymember Rivas’ letter, please call them (leave a message) and thank them. If you can, tell them how your community has been affected and how state action on the recommendations will help your organization and community.

If your assemblymember did not sign Assemblymember Rivas’ letter, please call them (leave a message) and ask them to urge either Assembly Minority Leader Marie Waldron (for Republicans) or Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (for Democrats) to take action on the recommendations.

You can find contact info for your assemblymember and state senator here

And you can use social media to bring additional attention to the letter by:

  • Retweeting this tweet from Assemblymember Rivas, thanking her @AsmLuzRivas and tagging the Governor @GavinNewsom and @CalNonprofits
  • Tweeting to @GavinNewsom and ask him to heed the call of 30 state assemblymembers and more than 1,100 California nonprofits and include this link to the legislators’ letter
  • Sharing this Facebook post from Assemblymember Rivas; thanking her and asking Governor Gavin Newsom to address the urgent needs of California's nonprofits

As always, we are here to advocate for California's nonprofit community, and to help California’s nonprofits advocate effectively. If you have questions, concerns, advice – or more – please don’t hesitate to contact our public policy director Lucy Salcido Carter.

We are honored that the concerns and needs of California nonprofits have been taken up by these legislators. Click here for the letter from Assemblymember Rivas and 30 other state legislators to Governor Newsom and leaders of the California legislature
