We did it! 553 nonprofit, philanthropic and other community leaders signed onto support our letter calling for improved nonprofit contracts with government. And now we move forward...
As the budget reflects, the Governor has huge ambitions for California, and a lot of those ambitions lean hard on nonprofits to deliver – on climate, on poverty, on domestic violence. But to succeed as the partners the state needs will require meaningful changes to our grant and contract relationships.
Today this call to action, led by the California Contracting Coalition, was delivered to Governor Newsom and state legislative leaders. We've also issued a press release and will be sharing on social media. The urgency of our message, and this need for meaningful change, is amplified by the inclusion of each organization that signed on in support of this important effort.

"We on the coalition team have been talking with state officials to give them a "heads up" about the letter and talking over the key points," says Jan Masaoka, CEO, of CalNonprofits. "I'm very happy to say there's a lot of realization about contracting difficulties and the need to change practices."
