new board photos for 2023

Please join the board and staff of CalNonprofits in welcoming the four outstanding individuals who’ve been elected to the CalNonprofits Board of Directors! We're also saying goodbye to two long-serving members.

The four members who stood out from a field of 12 candidates, are:

‣ Shane Murphy Goldsmith, President and CEO of Liberty Hill Foundation in Los Angeles, who is brand new to the CalNonprofits board.

‣ Leslie Castellano, an incumbent candidate, who serves as Executive Director of Ink People Center for the Arts in Eureka.

‣ William York, another incumbent candidate, who is President & CEO of 211 San Diego.

‣ Shamus Roller, who is returning to the board for a new term following a year-long hiatus, is the Executive Director of the National Housing Law Project in San Francisco.

Learn more about our new members and see our full list of board members here.

Two-thirds of our board seats are elected by members – it’s in our bylaws! – and the participation of our membership is essential. Each person elected will serve a three-year term and can serve no more than three consecutive terms.

In addition to welcoming new members, we’re also bidding farewell to former board chair Maricela Morales and member Surina Khan. We are deeply grateful to them for their years of commitment and service to CalNonprofits and the wider nonprofit community.

Although in many staffed nonprofits board members often focus on advising staff, the CalNonprofits board members are policy partners with staff and one another, bringing clout and constituencies – as well as experience and expertise – to the work of CalNonprofits.
