Two Nonprofit Equity Bills Advance!
Great news for our California Nonprofit Equity Initiative: two of the bills have moved closer to reaching the Governor’s desk.– SB 1246 (Limon), which incentivizes the state to make timely payments, cleared a key committee and will get a floor vote soon. And SB 336 (Umberg), which creates a fair framework for compensating nonprofit partners for their indirect costs, passed the Assembly, and we anticipate it receiving a Senate concurrence vote soon.
Thank you to the 400+ nonprofit organizations who signed our letter urging legislators to support these bills. Now it’s time to get these bills over the finish line and onto the Governor’s desk for final signing!
Unfortunately, AB 2322 (Hart) did not move forward this legislative session. This bill would have streamlined small grant programs by reducing application and reporting requirements. This is an important part of bringing more equitable access to public dollars for smaller nonprofits and we will continue to work on developing and advancing similar solutions in the next legislative session.
