Contracting Reform Efforts Recharging

Buoyed by the success of Assembly Bill 590, Senator Gregg Hart’s legislation that paved the way for advanced payments for all nonprofits doing business with the state, we are continuing our push to improve government-nonprofit partnerships through the California Nonprofit Equity Initiative.

Two new bills will continue that work. Assemblymember Steve Bennett (D-Oxnard) joins Assemblymember Gregg Hart (D-Santa Barbara) as  joint co-authors of Assembly Bill 2322, which would reduce the application and reporting requirements for grants of $20,000 or less. And Senator Monique Limón (D-Santa Barbara) will continue her effort to strengthen and expand the scope of the California Prompt Payment Act with Senate Bill 1246.

“We are fortunate to have nonprofit champions in Sacramento like Steve Bennett, Gregg Hart, and Monique Limón leading the charge to bring meaningful change and greater equity to nonprofits and the communities they serve,” said Geoff Green, CEO of CalNonprofits. “Together with the coalition of 22 nonprofits we’ve worked with since last year, we look forward to meaningful engagement with the legislature and Administration.”

Stay tuned! We’ll keep you posted on how these bills move forward and ask for your expressions of support in the months ahead. CalNonprofits is also focused this year on implementing AB 590, so be on the lookout for educational and advocacy opportunities soon.
